The engines runs forward fine , will go to neutral , but not reverse. The sound electronics work fine. The smoke unit checks ok with a meter. It appears the forward reverse is controlled by a circuit board, but I don't know if the components are replaceable or if the whole board would have to be replaced.Engine model 6-28018

I agree with George, a model number is really needed as there are several configurations.
hi I had talked to him he does not know the number but it is a tmcc Lionel engine!

Well, top suspects are the DCDR or the R2LC. I typically start with the R2LC as it's a lot easier to swap, just unplug one and plug in the new one. If that doesn't do it, the DCDR is most likely the issue.

The engine is a 571 Camelback model number 6-28018. Also the smoke unit resistor measures 28 ohms
Is the run/PGM switch set to run?
