Larry Sr,
Was waiting to see what these looked like before I purchased, but was very interested in adding them to my Military Train stuff.

The lesson from the big M is, "no ordee, no gettee, chop-chop."
Yes Dave
I have the Marines #45 with sound car and the blue Army #44 with sound car. As well a the Army Operations Eagle Justice set and add on's. All coincides with these engines and sound cars
I wanted these right off the get go. I thought Lionel was getting back into running Military stuff on a regular basic .....guess I was wrong.

Those days are pretty much over. I've talked with the Lionel group enough to understand that if the preorders are not there it's not going to happen. I believe that the days are over where they will just run something because they think they might get in the ball park of reasonable sales. The production schedule is already quite full and I just can't see them devoting the resources to running a product that doesn't have market support. So the point being, if you really want it, you need to place a pre order. I know that irritates people, but it's just the new reality.

...and hope you are still alive when it ships!

I like all of your comments, but this is different game now, its about the Money$$$.
Prices are going upward, and our incomes are staying similar or the same. If there is not a New Group of Buyers coming into the Hobby, its going to change. Plain and simple. Many hobby shops are just purchasing what they are selling and not stocking extra's for Inventory. So, if you are waiting for a real sale, like in the Old Days, its not gonna happen.
If you want it, when its offered, You better get it, plain and simple. Nuff Sayd.
I've bought classic cars sight unseen so I have no reservations about preordering a $500+ model train (3 LEGACY SD40s).
If it looks good and I'm satisfied with it I'll keep it. If I don't like it then I'll just sell it and move on.
I'm extremely confident that my Lionel, MTH and Atlas preorders will meet my expectations.

Been there, done that, and took a bath. More times than I care to remember. Ordering an item sight unseen, then being disappointed and deciding you don't want it and selling it, is almost always a guaranteed way to lose significant money, in my experience.
Many times the catalog illustration and the real thing are notably different. In any case, there's no substitute for seeing the actual item before you put your money down.
It's hard when there are no dealers around to go look at things, and of course having to pre-order yields the same result. The only real help these days is getting current reviews with pictures from folks on the Forum, and hoping the item is still available.
If I buy an engine for $450 and six months later decide I don't want it I'll list in on eBay. If I can get $300 for it I'll be satisfied, which more often than not, is the case. I'm OK with getting better than 60% of it's original price.
The way I see it, for six months I got $150 worth of play value out of it.
Some items I've sold for profit or was pleasantly surprised at what I got.
It's only money.
