I just got this loco tonight. I ordered from Patstrains on their at cost sale on Sunday. It is fantastic. I love it so much. There seems to have been, and still remains, a bit of confusion over the whistle steam effect or lack thereof. I was looking at one on ebay and trainz told me it did not have the whistle steam. The lionel description page seems to lack its description, and threads on here turned up some say it has and some not. The box though clearly states it does have whistle steam, and my loco performed flawlessly in its initial running with whistle steam. It's great. Thanks to Pat and to lionel.

Glad you're enjoying your new Legacy Heisler.  Not that the catalogs are always 100% correct, but these locomotives were  catalog'd with the whistle-steam banner prominently displayed.  And now that they've been delivered, and consumer videos illustrate the feature quite nicely... we can say unequivocally that the catalog was correct this time!

I believe the only difference to speak of among the different models -- aside from roadname graphics, etc... -- is the style of smoke emitted from the main smokestack.  Most of the units have a very unique constant haze of smoke, whereas others have a more traditional puffing smokestack synchronized with the Railsounds.  The Meadow River Lumber is one of the latter -- not sure if it's the only one like that though.  Anybody else know?
