I went ahead and ordered the Mickey Mouse handcar from Charles Ro. It was the only thing I really wanted bad enough and I didn't want miss out on it. Though Lionel claiming limited production is probably just to induce some Fear Of Missing Out.

Ditto. I ordered a few from Ro last night. Going to give them as gifts to some train friends that I know won't get them and will get a kick out of them.

Small item in the grand scheme of three thousand dollar locos, but a pretty cool offering from Lionel/Disney.

It looks like Lionel took a step backwards with a certain Legacy steamer, namely the decapod.  According to the catalog listing it comes with a WIRED  tether.  Interesting,  after all these years of wireless drawbars on Legacy and TMCC  equipped locomotives,  Lionel goes reintroduced the unsightly wire. I wonder what the reason is.

Its an ex MTH Premier locomotive that they probably didn't have time to reengineer with the wireless tether. It should be interesting IF it's a wired tether, will it me the MTH PC board drawbar OR the old bunch of wires in a rubber sleeve. In the last catalog, the L1 was also ex MTH Premier so until one of these former Premier locomotives hits the streets/ shelves, its anyone guess if it will be wired or wireless.

The Legacy Santa Fe 2-10-4s from the 2022 big book were former MTH tooling. Those have been delivered and they had the wireless tether.

It's because the boiler on the Russian Decapod is too small to fit the electronics into, so they are all going in the tender. Hence the reason for a wired tether.

I know everyone really wanted that Polar Express Big Boy but I think the Mickey Mouse Handcar is going to be the sleeper hit of this catalog.

Likely a 20 pin tether, with 20 wires and no sleeve. The same as the one on the Legacy 0-6-0's that were just delivered. A space issue.

I'm guessing the 0-6-0s were the test subject for this design.

I bought one not knowing it would have a tether. It runs well. The few times it didn't, a check that the tether was fully seated fixed it. Hopefully it lasts. The last time I saw so many wires was when the phone company opened the box on the corner.

Seeing the Fezziwig Camelback and related cars made my day; this set shows that the artists at Lionel have an appreciation for not only classic literature, but also a benevolent character as good old Fezziwig, bless his heart - the altruistic businessman and antithesis of Ebenezer Scrooge Finances are tight this year, but I don't think I can pass this set up

The Polar Express RDO set looks neat as does a lot of other Christmas-themed stuff. While I found the 21" scale cars that go along with the Santa Sleigh Bell E-8s strikingly beautiful, making them that long seems a strange choice; I surmise that collectors could be driving this trend of super-long scale cars, but they sure need some wide diameter track to not only look semi-realistic going around curves, but also to prevent overhang collisions

It's great to see the PRR Hippos again; I have the PS2.0 version and they are very nice-looking and good-running models, with almost round boilers . I don't think MTH ever re-ran them again with PS3.0, so it's been a long time ~ 20 years +- since the Premier versions have been on the market (assumption that Lionel is using the Premier design). I wonder if the long-tendered version will have two fatboy speakers, do they still do this for larger tenders? I can state unequivocally that the long-tendered PS2.0 version (which only has one speaker) chuffing effects are awesome), ostensibly due to the large chamber which provides resonance of tremendous audio quality. I had great fun doubleheading them. I would think the same would be true for the Legacy version, and especially so if it had two speakers

This might be a bit of a reach, but since the Lionel 2-8-0s are just rebranded former MTH tooling, do you think one could reshell a Lionel 2-8-0 with the older MTH shells? MTH had a few cool fantasy paintjobs (Santa Fe Valley Flyer/NYC Pacemaker, plus a few Christmas ones) and with proto 2/3 parts being possibly hard to get, it would be neat if one could swap the shell from the new engine to the older ones

Started by saying I wasn’t sure I was going to get a VL Big Boy.  Now after careful consideration I’m getting a black and a greyhound.  And I don’t even “model” the UP on my layout.  WTF is wrong with me…LOL

Oh well…it’s an investment right.  They will be worth $4K plus on the bay in 7-10 years…

Only if you leave it sealed in the box, never opened.  Here's a thought.  Buy 3 of them: one to run, one to display, and one to sell in the future for what you paid for all 3.  Think of it, a pair of free Big Boys!

What could go wrong?
