Lionel Current Production Birney Trolleys

I have recently been on a quest to run trolleys in local paint schemes. I was considering repainting some of the current production Lionel Birney trolleys. They have improved the detail and eliminated the monstrous bumper from the postwar era and mpc era. But I noticed the traction tires are thin, stick to the track and eventually disintegrate. Has anyone else had this problem? I was wondering if the easy fix was to use other after marker traction tires? Has anyone else had different problems with these.
