I've been going through the piles of items I've kind of tossed aside from collections I've purchased.  I found 4 engine boxes for engines that I don't have, and as far as I know, were not in the collections that I've purchased.  There are a 2037, 216 (wish I had that engine), a 230, and a 231P box.

Since I didn't necessarily remember what these engines were, I looked them up on Ebay.  Imagine my surprise to find someone asking $350 for a 231P box.  Is that even possible?  I had to pick my jaw up off of the floor.  I've sold empty boxes for what I would consider crazy prices but they were for a Congressional Set and a 2341 Jersey Central Trainmaster box, not a small Alco A unit.  This price just seemed off the wall.  Is the box for the 231P that rare?

I am tracking it.  Considering there is a complete boxed set with the boxed 231, all other boxes, including the set box currently at around $200, and a boxed 231 with original box sold for around $150, I'm really interested in seeing why this box has a $350 asking price on it.  I'm kind of wondering if they meant to put it at $35, which would seem more reasonable.

I could see a premium for a good box for the one year only 216 and 230 but the 231 was made for about 3 years and is quite common. I guess time will tell.
