Hello guys and gals...........

I purchased the Lionel #18117,18121 S.F. F-3 ABA set and found stamped dated numbers on the inside of the boxes but what does these numbers mean ?  The box for the B unit is stamped 13124 and box for the AA units is 13503, can anyone tell me the date of these engines were put in the box ?

Thank you Ed, that was interesting information about the Julian dating. So it is Dec,16,1993 for AA units and Nov,8,1994 for the B unit. Does Lionel still uses the Julian dates on the trains made in china since the move in 2001 ?

Good question, not sure about this.  The newer rolling stock boxes are imprinted on the outside rather than printed on the inside.  I'm looking at the 7-29976 2012 Christmas boxcar (China made version), I'm fairly certain these were made in early 2013, the box is marked 10613EL. So this example seems to correlate. Yet I've seen other examples that don't make any sense at all.  The EL in the code may signify Early Light, a known

producer of some Lionel items in China.
