Lionel G gauge question

I am looking at a Lionel 8-85015 G gauge GP-20. It is supposed to have Railsounds. Should the sound come on when powered up or is it necessary to use a sound activation button?

That only had Signal sounds so you need the whistle/Bell button. Unless it was upgrade to RS. If upgrade should here engine sounds. They were upgradeable. G
