Lionel JLC Big Boy

Not looking to start a lengthy discussion regarding the Lionel JLC Big Boy or JLC Allegheny but can anyone please answer my previous questions?

Probably ONLY someone at Lionel, and they ain't talkin'!

The first Lionel Big Boy was not JLC, if that's what you meant by "earlier JLC Big Boy". In fact the first Lionel Big Boy seems pretty inferior when compared to their new one. Huge difference all-around and a big reason why I decided to sell mine.

As for production numbers, my guess was they were low as I have not seen a reasonably-priced one on Ebay in quite some time. The few I can even remember were either full MSRP or in the stratosphere.

A few years back, Jerry C. mentioned 1800 JLC Big Boys being made. Actually seemed like more of a slip, certainly seems like a believable number.

You are correct - the 'early' Lionel Big Boy was not a JLC model.

I sure would like to know where Lionel made those later JLC Big Boy's. 

If I had to make a guess I'd say Korea - not China.

Made somewhere in China. You can tell which ones were made in Korea by its weight.. Lionels Chinese made steamers (BigBoy) are of a lighter alloy metal.

I did not pull the locomotive itself out of the display case, but the shipping carton has South Korea as the origination address. Shipping date was 23 October 2007.
