I previously did something to try and get a Lionchief engine to have full features. I was following instructions but don’t know how to get back. The manual index doesn’t show anything. I saw instructions for base update and cab update. I never used these when I got the unit because I was mainly interested in replacing a downed TMCC. I since had legacy units work fine; but not now. Should I use these update modules? Which should I do first; the base or the Cab?

If you push the info button you can scroll through the control types. Cab1, TMCC, and Legacy. Select the proper one for engine you are using.
We may need more information if this isn’t what you are looking for.

From that screen hit scroll
I hit scroll it never changes.
is there a reset button?
Thats is what you should get when you push the CTC button.
What happens when you select the engine you want to change the control type and push the info button on the upper right of the Cab2? You should see the engine setup menu. Then use the red knob to “scroll” and cycle through the options where you can change the control type.
This video might help.

Thanks for your help and the video. It looks like I got the engine programmed. I put it back in run; but I can’t wake it up.

@MartyE
Update I used another engine and it worked perfectly. So now can I reset the first engine and do it over?
Just so you cover all the bases, I would re-assign the ID to the engine , and then program the Cab2 from the video above based on your engine type.

I assigned a different ID; followed the video, and still no joy.

When you assign an ID to the engine using the PGM/RUN switch procedure does the horn sound when you push the "SET" button when in PGM mode? If so we know it's taking the ID.

Yes it does. I was able to run it in conventional.

What is the product number of the engine in question? I know it maybe a dumb question but it is set back to "RUN" correct?
Yes i put it in run. No such thing as a dumb question.
2401180
It is a legacy engine.
I wish you best of luck- I'm out on this one.
Well since it does take an ID by confirmation of a whistle blow when programmed, it being a Legacy engine, it should then respond the the Cab2 regardless if it set as a TMCC engine in the remote. Either I missing something or the engine has an issue.

I did the reset per the manual and heard the bell. The only thing that changed was the horn started blowing when I touched the speed control.
How exactly are you doing a reset? It almost sounds like you initiated "Sequence Control".

PRR the manual. Engine in program, pres engine, press set, hold reset for 10 seconds.
it works with lionchief with most of the features.
This sets the address back to 1 as well. Did you reassign it’s ID after reset?
I must admit that reset is new to me. Last one I had to do was just simply reprogramming the ID.
I never noticed that reset in any manual, color me amazed. That's obviously for newer Legacy with the LCPxx boards, that never appeared in any older Legacy manuals.
After the reset, when started the program sequence; all the information was still in the controller. Is that normal?

I believe it is just an engine reset not a Cab2 reset. So once you reset and it defaults to 1, you will have to re-assign it back to the ENG ID you want it to be. If that information was previously in there it will still be there unless you specifically erased it.

Ok then did everything by the book. I guess it goes back to Lionel. Thanks again for all your help and time. I’ll let you know what they say.

Let us know what the outcome is. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
