Lionel Legacy NYC Hudson cab number 5413 whistle smoke reservior cap question

That's the metal peg that the magnet is supposed to stick too because magnets will not stick to the die cast shell.

There should be a recess in the shell under that removable dome that the peg fits into.

It probably just came unglued from the smoke fluid. You can clean the recess with some alcohol on a Q tip. Then put a drop of adhesive and replace the peg.

Here is a picture of the Hudson with the dome removed. The magnet is in the picture next to the dome. the metal peg is in the bowl. Looking at the top of engine where the dome goes it isn't clear to me exactly where the peg goes and where the magnet is supposed sit inside the dome.  sit on the dome. I am concerned that I might end up letting the peg fall into the smoke fluid reservoir hole if I am not careful. I will cover it with tape.

Yep, I had to do that straight out the box,…..

I think before, ….however, I didn’t play around, I swapped the board, removed the class lights, ,and evicted the Cannon right out of the master carton,…now it’s a nice engine …..😁

Now one last dumb question:

one of the metal pins a is magnet, the other one in the blue pan is not a magnet. Does it matter which hole the magnet goes in?

Makes no never mind, get them to stick to the lid, as if they were oriented on the engine, and then put them back in their little holes the same way,…….you’re just completing the magnetic field so, really, only one magnet needed,…..kinda cheap on Lionel’s part, but it does work, so be it….
