Lionel PRR M1a Steam Engine Question

If this is the old 2003 run with TMCC and 32 speed steps, you'll likely need the Cruise M module by the Electric Railroad Co. This will give you 100 speed steps. It's not quite as slow creep worthy as Legacy, but it's much better than 32 steps.

Okay. I looked at their site and they show a Cruise M module for steam engines. I guess that would be the one. I will call the company before I purchase it, just to verify I am buying the right type M module. Thank you for the lead.

If I used some sort of command control, would that eliminate the issue? Just curious. Thanks again.

Command control definitely helps, but even if you run conventional, the Cruise M will still give you better speed control. I almost missed the conventional part, since I've gotten so used to everyone running modern Lionel with TMCC or Legacy.

Sounds good to me, Thomas. I am sure I will graduate into the more advanced control systems as I learn. I am new to O-scale, and being an old guy, I am taking things a step at a time, lol.

The first thing the O.P. needs to clarify if his loco is a odessry 2003 version or the 2014 legacy version. Two similar outside looking locos but totally dissimilar inside electronics.

The paperwork I have is dated 2003 and before. It was my mistake to mention "Legacy" when it isn't mentioned either on the box or the instructions. 

I would say it it is the Odyessy version.
