Hey all, I have the Lionel J from the early 1990's road number 612. Over the years the tender has formed what I can best describe as bubbles in the paint. It looks more like "growths" than bubbles. Anyway does anyone know where I might be able to locate a replacement shell for the tender. For whatever reason it's just happening on the tender and not the locomotive itself. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer. Brendan

I have seen many shells at York, some original and others repo. Many parts dealers stock them also.
good luck,
Dave
Is the tender plastic or die-cast? My Lionel Warhorse J's die-cast tender from 1996 has suffered zinc pest or whatever it's called and while the paint didn't bubble, it's showing very odd textures in the metal underneath:
That looks like cold-flow on your Warhorse tender. It's a condition that's fairly common on Lionel's US-made die-cast. Cold-flow, zinc-pest and outgassing are all different conditions.

Thanks, guys. Nick, the tender is die cast although the problem I am having looks different from the ones in your photo. The deformations on my tender are small round white spots that have risen up and caused the paint to fall off. The tender itself is smooth for the most part, doesn't look like whats going on in your pictures.
So it's not the Chinese this time? Interesting.
