Hello, I am looking for a place to find the part I need to fix my legacy 2- truck shay. Lionel is out of the part, and they say its unavilable from them. If anyone can help me find this part, that would be greatly appreciated.

The part# is: 6101233006

The Lionel Part name is: 3 CYLINDER ENGINE ASSEMBLY / 2-TRUCK SHAY

The  problem with mine is that an internal fitting fell apart--can't describe the location on the part, but it may have been the same as the original poster's. It appeared to be a press fit. I tried to fix it but was so ham-handed that I damaged it further. It's now beyond fixing. The Shay still runs but with hesitations caused by the misaligned drive gear.

I may sell the Shay for parts if I can't fix it.

Update:

After giving the shay to my local service center, they have confirmed that unless the part below comes available, the loco will not be able to get fixed. So with that said, this loco is at the mercy of a Lionel part, so if you know anyone who has a spare please let me know.

I called Lionel again today and they said they will not have the part in unless they make another run of the 2 truck shays , as they ave been out of the part since 2015.

S-W parts and Brasseur Electric trains do not have this part in stock.

Thanks again,

this is a common problem with the Lionel Shays. We have fixed these often in the repair shop. Our fix is was drilling and pinning the shaft to the crank parts with brass wire. Never seen them come back. This a fix that requires patience.

Thanks for the help, is it possible for me to send this to your repair shop for the fixup?

Awesome!

Ahh, I've seen these before on HO locomotives as well. The cylinder engine assembly part on O gauge along with HO has to be made from light and cheap plastic so it's maluable to the company to make the piece, sadly not being made from high quality metal so it'll last longer. Not too many manufacturers supply the parts however I know of a repair shop for O gauge locomotives in Washington New Jersey in which the owner is very up to date on how to replace these peices, as he has done it many times before.

Need some help; have a Lionel 6-28022 3 truck Shay; need to replace the front coupler and tune up the smoke unit; how to separate the chassis from the boiler?  Seem to recall it is not a lot of screws (3?) but need to find out which ones and location; thanks much for the help; Falcon70

PS Bruk, your RCMC diagrams have really helped me!
