I picked this Lionel Pre War trailing truck up with a load of Gilbert HO. There is a small truck with spring and its mounted to a mounting bracket which would attach to the loco with screws. I cannot figure out what that goes to. Can anyone help??

Actually looks like a Scout truck from the 1950's.
It is the front truck and bracket from a 1668 engine.
It also fits the 1688 torpedoes. The 1668 & 1688 bodies shared the same molds.
Thanks all. Its a 1688E-5 Bracket and 1689E-26 Truck for the 1668 or 1688 as suggested.
