Glad to finally see these.
Lionel's premium is great but the scent is rather unpleasant.
Now the quest begins. Is it private labeled by another supplier? Who's making it for them!!

It's Lionel's own. If you are thinking it's another smoke supplier, I doubt it as many have been told by Lionel CS to only use the premium in their locomotives.
I would like to see the page this is on. Been trying all morning to see the RTR catalogue, but can't get pat the John Deere stuff. Is the a secrete to this one?
How about a list of scents we wish not see...Limburger, gymnasium, last night's whiskey....

My PC keeps crashing too. I just selected the last page on the short cuts below the catalog to get there.
Question about lionels premium smoke fluid .. Does it leave alot of residue like the old fluid did? I know they all do but megasteam is the best i seen as in i dont have to clean my tracks all the time..
Can't say for sure but Lionel premium is quite "thin" as far as viscosity goes so I don't really see much residue anywhere on our equipment, track or layout.

Thanks, Marty, that did it, as long as kept going backwards. Lionel's selection of scents now makes sense since I can see that they followed page after page of Christmas themed stuff.

Lionel recommends using the premium fluid as it is more pure than other brands. This translates to less residue.
The scented SF will be the premium fluid w/ scents added to the mix.
Is it here already? It's not on the shipping schedule... It must be BTO
So is the unscented smoke odorless, or is it the original that some say has an unpleasant odor?
What, me worry?

I can say that the sample bottles of (made in China) fluid Lionel provides with engines & train sets is totally disgusting.... with a real chemical-type smell. I don't know if Lionel considers it "unscented" or not, but it certainly stinks. I use JT's ... it smokes better as I have noticed in comparison with Lionel's China-made stuff.
I don't think that the small sample bottles, included with locos, is the same stuff that's in the premium fluid, full size bottles.
The premium smokes great. The smell isn't great though so the addition of scents should be most welcome.

If they aren't they should be to give consumers a "taste"of what Lionel offers. Is the Premium made in China also?

The small bottles are the cheap junk. I was a bit PO'd when I bought my die cast units as one of those bottles had cracked and I had smoke fluid all over everything. Those crappy bottles don't seal well when they're not cracked!
Question for Lionel. If you want us to use premium, why not pack it with the engines?

No coal scent?, i love the smell of burning coal. Another thing, why not use a dark colored glass bottle instead of plastic?
There is one "flavor" Lionel will not make: The Pepe LePew of smells--MARX!
WOW, This is a great post, and when will these bottles Of Scented Smoke Fluid be in stock at our Local Hobby Shops????
More choice is always good, but personally I will stick with JT's "NADA", which works well in both TMCC and Legacy locos, and is the least viscous of all, short of Seuthe.
Art,
Is Megasteam truly thinner than Lionel Premium? I thought that they were about the same or that the Lionel was thinner.
I'd love to try some of this stuff. I wonder how long we'll have to wait before the online dealers (I don't have a LHS) have it in stock.
I like the idea of diffent scents but why couldn't they do a desile and coal smell? Something that would be a bit more real? Mega steam dose

I'd be curious how many people run with those diesel and coal scents. I think the reason they started with the ones they did is they are probably popular across the board, especially with the wives.
used to until i started running premium. I may put one or two drops in for smell
I'm still not convinced that lionel and MTH for that matter "make their own fluid". Specifically the MTH fluid sure seems awful close to JT's in product viscosity ,smoke output, and scent varieties.
Even if by some chance they do, if nothing else on my lousy layout is made in the U.S.A at least the smoke vapor is.
IMO If it ain't broke don't fix it, no point in spending an extra $1 an ounce for "Lionel" fluid.
I run Mega-Steam Diesel Power in my Lionel and Atlas engines as well as Lionel Premium smoke fluid. There was a thread awhile ago about Mega-Steam leaving behind a sticky residue on Lionel smoke units and originally I bought into that but have since reconsidered.
I still have about 2 oz of Mega-Steam that I'll continue to use in my engines. As for cabooses, I use Mega-Steam Hickory Wood. Again, I have a hard time believing that any smoke fluid (Mega-Steam, Lionel Premium or MTH Proto-Smoke) will degrade any smoke unit.
I buy a lot of Lionel stuff but the Lionel smoke fluid left a lot to be desired until the premium SF was released.
I think I will stick with JT's, I like the idea of handing my money to the guy that actually makes it. Lionel will make more money off of me purchasing engines or rolling stock vs $7 for smoke fluid.
I think the idea is to have more pleasant options than things you don't normally like smelling on purpose like diesel or coal or existing lionel premium smoke fluid the way it is now. I'm all for modeling in more realism, but scents is not one of them.
Megastem for me.....and, I'm supporting a local industry....Jeb is in Charlottesville.
