Does anyone know anything about the 400X and 404X ? They were found in sets. What was included in the sets?

There were a few sets, the 400 and 404 were the power units and had a combination of the 2559 and 2550 dummy units in tow. Being a single motor unit they could only handle the 2 cars at most they had. More 400s are around as they were a separate sale item, not sure of the 404. Seems that more people wanted the power units only and the dummy units are much more harder to find.
In 2000 a Japanese man wanted to collect as many of these as he could find. The prices on an Internet auction site steadily rose from $165 for the pair to in excess of $400 per pair. John
Yup, the 2550 and 2559 dummies are pretty rare, at least in my experience. Every time I see any PW RDC's in person, it's usually 400. 404 is somewhat harder, but then the dummies are what take the cake. And of course, expect to pay a few hundred bucks for each of the dummies. More than what the powered units usually go for.
I always liked the look of the Lionel RDC’s. While selectively compressed they had nice proportions, unlike other manufacturers. Lionel did put Blomberg trucks under them, but the still looked good.
