I am trying to understand the chronology of what's been happening for the last 30+ years in this land of toy choo-choos. Lionel was in the MPC days when I was last paying attention Now I'm returning to the hobby and the different generations/series - the PostWar Celebration, Century Edition, Conventional Classic, Limited Series, and I'm sure I left a few out - etcetera. Some of them look just the same and understanding the plusses and/or minuses of them would help me out.

I'm puzzled about who came first in the years gone past, AND which series has more or less appeal or features/improvements and stuff like that. I have searched the forum and read several threads looking for maybe a list or something of the sort, trying to get the data crammed into my thick skull. Some of it makes sense, but maybe my old brain doesn't learn so easy now that I'm closer to 60 than 50.

Anybody have a list or history/chronology of what happened? or a "cheat-sheet"?

Postwar Celebration is a remake of Lionel sets from 1947 to 1966.  Readily available, but some prices are steep.

Century Editions were iconic Lionel locomotives, made around 2000.  All with TMCC.  The prices on some of the locomotives have dropped significantly.

Conventional Classics is a second iteration of the Postwar Celebration series, without TMCC.  Eliminating TMCC lowers the price by 25% - 30%.
