Are we using "The Price Is Right" rules??

If so my answer is $1299

My prediction is in the range of $1299 to $1599.

Basing this off the price of the Brass Hybrid Mikado.

The brass hybrid Mikado uses the chassis from the light Mikados Lionel has been pumping out every few years.

#90 is a 2-10-0 which Lionel does not currently have a die cast chassis for....unless it's former MTH tooling.

Either way it would influence a price increase.

Also, little or no discount allowed. Cars will be 200 bucks a pop.

Wow! Are you sure $200 per car or for a two car set???

MTH MSRP for individual car was $100 and the three car set was $290. (This was for the latest run they did in 2020 V1)

Will slapping "Lionel" on the box literally double the price? Hopefully not.

Overall - this will be a question across the board for the any lionel rendition of MTH tooling - what will be the price change?

$399 MSRP for 2 cars.

Circa 1998-1999 my Mom and Dad took the family on a trip to Amish Country. Part of the trip (at my insistence) was a stop at Strasburg RR. Little did I know, while I was wandering around waiting for the ride to start, my Dad was in the office and somehow negotiated me being allowed to ride in the cab of #90 the entire trip. The Engineer and Fireman were most gracious, certainly gracious enough to put me to work shoveling coal for quite awhile.

While the rest of the family was riding in the cars and enjoying lunch, I was in 7th heaven. I remember staring into that firebox and being overwhelmed by the noise, heat, and thrill of being in the cab of a running steam engine.

Dad was quite the man and he relished the challenge of making other people's dreams come true. He certainly accomplished that on that day in Strasburg.

I can't wait to place my order for this engine that holds a very dear place in my mind and heart.

Thanks Dad,

Paul

Sadly, I think I'll have to pass.  While I was hoping for a real Strasburg locomotive, I will have to make do with my recent purchase of the Nicholas Smith special run of Strasburg 10-wheelers.  I got tired of waiting for Lionel to make a correct Strasburg locomotive.

John, I saw those on there website. I was in debate about getting one. Luckily I didn't pull the trigger, but I will be now. I can't wait to read about it in the catalog. I hope everything works out for you and maybe you too can get one. Good luck.

Yeah, saw on the "what's in the catalog" topic that this was a brass hybrid. I thought immediately of the GS series engines and their prices. I figured at least 2K for the engine, and dang well it is close. All said and done, going to be one expensive trip, just for that and the cars.

The GS series engines were Vision Line though... so unless 90 is VL or is a "VL in disguise", then I figure under 2K... trying to stay optimistic here in the waning hours before the catalog release.

The Santa Fe 3160 brass hybrid was at least somewhat similar in size to 90 right? Or at least the closest a brass hybrid has been?

msrp: 1,299.99 and it's from the 2017 catalog.

maybe it'll be close to this?

2017 prices have no bearing on what costs are in 2021.  Costs of material and labor will.  Both have gone up since 2017.

Heck, I'm paying a buck a gallon more for gas in 2021 than I was in 2020.

I was in the same boat for a Rutland 10 wheeler.  Got tired of waiting for Lionel to release one and had a NH 10 wheeler re-lettered for Rutland.  The new Rutland 10 Wheeler suffers from that lame grey Lionel is using on the smoke box of late.

For me the price is not great, but that is a locomotive that I have been waiting some time for. I will be getting one.
I know tooling prices have risen, and since Lionel has stated it is totally new tooling and not based on a previous model, I can understand the cost. Also, there might be some kickback to Strasburg for using IP that belongs to Strasburg, so the cost has some justification.

I'm glad someone posted that video, now I can make my comments.  Just so that buyers of the Lionel model go into this large $$ purchase with their eyes open...

If this engine is all new tooling, why did they screw up the drivers so badly? Compare the prototype image at 1:27 in the above video to the model image at 1:53. The model drivers are way too small and WAY too widely spaced. Maybe they figured that since people didn't care about driver spacing on their PRR H9/H10/whatever, they won't care on this model either. Different price point though. I'm sure people will gush over this engine, as long as they don't look too closely at the prototype.

Hey! come to think of it the prototype also runs on TWO rails. What's up with that?

I kid, but for me the exact replication is not a necessity.
