Hey David,

I played with the sensor track for about a half hour at the customer service open house. The track can be programmed to make certain engines perform certain actions when it rolls across the track. One example is that I can program my Legacy U30C when it rolls across the track to turn on the bell and blow a crossing sequence on the horn by itself. You can also "teach" the track a certain action to perform. You can set the track to record much like the Legacy base and have an engine stop, backup, open couplers, etc. I believe anything that you can record on the Cab-2 can be recorded on the track and then activated when the engine rolls across the track. Overall a very neat little piece of equipment.

I really like this idea, here's more info

Lionel LEGACY Control System

Get into your layout like never before with the LEGACY Layout Control System

Create custom control panels and operate switches, locomotives and more from an iPad®—wirelessly. Choose from a variety of LCS modules that combine your old and new accessories, lighting and track power into a single, unified system. Now, engage visitors to your layout with a simple, touch-based device that lets them instantly join in the fun!

Start with the new LCS WiFi module. It connects your iPad® to your layout. Then, download the free LCS App from the App Store™ and begin! LCS App is compatible with Lionel remote operating switches as well as SC-2 and any other device responds to standard TMCC-commands. LCS App also runs command-controlled accessories and TMCC or LEGACY locomotives. Fire engine couplers, blow signals, trigger dialog, set speed and direction from LCS App or your Lionel remote.

Add the LCS SensorTrack to the mix. Now your LCS App control panels show the location of LEGACY engines as they travel across your layout. And when a friend brings over a LEGACY locomotive, simply run it across the LCS SensorTrack and that engine’s name and number are immediately updated on your iPad® screen and each LEGACY CAB-2 remote. Use SensorTrack to trigger preset actions like blowing a grade-crossing signal each time a LEGACY engine passes. You can even record your own special series of commands to be triggered automatically.

As far as we know at this moment.

Since this is all new, I don't think anyone other than Lionel knows what is in the cards.  What all the sensor tracks can do.

So, the WiFi Unit only brings the LCS iPad Application into the mix? Correct?

I am very interested in using the system for layout automation. I need to see more examples of it in use before I jump in though.

I'm hopeful that the IR sensor can provide positive control points for stop/start. If you try to use Legacy or DCS to record repetitive activities the start and stop points will eventually drift. I want the passenger train stopping at the station, not in the tunnel ;-) Hopefully you can also have acceleration and deceleration curves and not just abrupt start/stops.
