What else does the sensor track do or will do in the future besides adding a new engine to your handheld when it runs over it?

Hey David,
I played with the sensor track for about a half hour at the customer service open house. The track can be programmed to make certain engines perform certain actions when it rolls across the track. One example is that I can program my Legacy U30C when it rolls across the track to turn on the bell and blow a crossing sequence on the horn by itself. You can also "teach" the track a certain action to perform. You can set the track to record much like the Legacy base and have an engine stop, backup, open couplers, etc. I believe anything that you can record on the Cab-2 can be recorded on the track and then activated when the engine rolls across the track. Overall a very neat little piece of equipment.
It is also directionally dependent. Meaning it can tell the loco to do one thing in one direction and something else in the other.
Does that mean that with the sensor track you don't have to load the engine information with any modules,or even manually just send the engine over the sensor track and all the information will be loaded automatically? Also, what is the cost of this sensor track?

You got it. The loco rolls over the track and is in the Cab-2 in less than two seconds. Preorder pricing on the sensor track from Nassau hobbies is just shy of $75.00.

I think you can have as many Sensor Tracks as you want but still only need 1 WiFi Module, Correct?

I'm fuzzy on the sensor track operation with only the base, how exactly is that going to work? How does the sensor communicate with the Legacy system directly without a separate data path?
It has a DATA patch via the serial (9 Pin) connection.
I believe the wifi is for interface to the iPad app.

AT last years York, the serial buss looped through the WiFi box to the sensor track and other devices. I am assuming that's why they multiple lengths of Sensor track cables so they can reach the base or other tracks to grab the DATA.
So then I could have multiple sensor tracks and use them for identification of what engine is where and be able to run the sequenced functions without the need for the WiFi Unit.
So, the WiFi Unit only brings the LCS iPad Application into the mix? Correct?

Looking forward for more info at York, as I am building my new layout and want to incorporate the sensor tracks into the layout.
I'll be all ears about the sensor tracks. I don't intend to get involved with the iPad application, but if I could have some functionality with just the sensor track, that would be cool.
I am not so sure about how the sensor track works,does the track have any wires that have to be connected to anything?
I am very interested in using the system for layout automation. I need to see more examples of it in use before I jump in though.
I'm hopeful that the IR sensor can provide positive control points for stop/start. If you try to use Legacy or DCS to record repetitive activities the start and stop points will eventually drift. I want the passenger train stopping at the station, not in the tunnel ;-) Hopefully you can also have acceleration and deceleration curves and not just abrupt start/stops.
I tend to doubt it'll work with DCS, I can't see Lionel going out of their way to do that.
