Just received my first legacy steam engine and I’m curious what every thinks is the best smoke fluid for it? I have many older Lionel steam engines and have mostly used traditional Lionel fluid. Is the Lionel premium fluid any good?

you should do a search, bc there are MANY threads on this topic. Personally, I use MegaSteam...its not too heavy or thick and, in my opinion, emits and decays the way smoke should.
Thank you Greg. I did a search, not much showed up.
Do a Google search. You'll find many articles about this from this forum.
I also like JT Megasteam. Mostly because I can get the coal burning, oil burning, and diesel scents. They remind me of the smells that stick out in my mind from being in steel mills and going to antique machinery events.
Thank you Bill. I will Megasteam.
Lionels newer fluid is an excellent performer. I actually like it better than Megateams.
I have been using Protosmoke based upon a consensus from an older thread on the same subject.
Seems to work well.

Thank you John.
Using anything other than Lionel Premium voids the warranty. If that is not an issue I prefer JT Megasteam

That certainly used to be Lionel’s policy. Not sure these days if that’s still the case.
Earlier this year Dean Brasseur suggested I only use Lionel or MTH smoke fluid in my Lionel locomotives.

Thank you everyone for your advice.
Personally, I use Megasteam, have been for years.
Megasteam for me. Also I have used Protosmoke. Both are great smokers.
