Lionel Southern PS-4 - Zinc Pest? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I was given a tender truck from a Lionel Southern PS-4. I am not sure from which run (no stock number) but it is a scale engine with TMCC.

One of the tender truck sideframes was broken in two places and I was asked if I could repair it while he is waiting for a replacement so he could have it for a show this weekend.

While holding the pieces together one of the brake shoes fell off with hardly any pressure applied.

Has anyone else with this engine had a problem with zinc pest? The tender is a USRA with 6 wheel trucks.

I am reluctant to simply order new trucks if I am going to get take offs from the same engine.
