How can I get the Lionel System Utility to work on my Mac? Will Lionel make this software work for the Mac?

You will need to run a version of Windows under a virtual machine like VMWave or others. you can get a free VM but unfortunately you will need a Windows license. Whether they will ever write a native LSU under Mac is a question for Lionel customer service.
This is from Lionel website: https://www.lionelsupport.com/...v15_update/index.cfm
I don’t have a Windows computer—I use a Mac. Can I run the LEGACY System Utility Software?
Yes, but you must install Windows on your Mac. You’ll need to buy the Windows operating system and a virtual machine host program, such as Parallels or VMWave Fusion. Both have been tested and work fine with our LSU software. Apple’s Boot Camp is another option to consider.
If you buy a simple Windows machine or laptop, you can get it for less than much of the costs of Legacy, etc.
However, you can run "boot camp" or virtual machine from oracle called "virtual box", or "Fusion", and also"Parallels". But you need a legitimate copy of windows anyway.
I don't think Lionel can justify the 7% that Mac has in the PC market to do it...
Chuck,
Odd that you posted before me, but my response is ahead of yours. Are you seeing that?
Yes...maybe it's when I started to type it...don't know.
Michael,
This thread may be of assistance. It details how to set up a Windows environment on a Macintosh in order to operate MTH's DCS Loader Program. TheWindows setup part is exactly the same for Lionel's LSU.
I'm assuming that you don't object to "taking a walk on the wild (MTH) side".
