Hi,
I have been coming across postwar engines, especially the 1946 726, that on some of them the smoke stack is not painted. Do you think this is from the factory or do you think that they where replaced with unpainted one. I know that the kit 726S would come with a new smoke stack painted or unpainted I believe. But some of these unpainted ones are on engines that still have the smoke bulb and not the conversion kit.
Any thoughts???

I don't know about the Berkshires. The 675 and 2025 are both known to come with unpainted aluminum smoke stacks.
Unpainted (Aluminum) smokestacks are a well known PW variation on some locomotives - here is are some examples detailing that:

1947 was the year that the 675 and its O-27 variants came with aluminum unpainted stacks.
I had a 726 with an unpainted stack. I like the look and ordered one for a 726 I'm restoring now.

What year are you restoring?

The unpainted aluminum smokestacks are a larger diameter than the black steel ones on the 675 and its variants. You may find that it will not fit.
