That's what I don't get. Why take something away that is optional its not like you have to play the dialogue.

I can guarrantee you that the younger generation and even some of the older generation like the crewtalk as much as I do. The crewtalk is what catches peoples eyes when Legacy engines are running. Why take away a feature like that that makes the engines unique???

I agree. It's not like your under some obligation to play the crew sounds. If you don't like them, don't use them. But don't spoil it for the rest of us by complaining to Lionel and everyone else about it so much that they decide to drop it.

I just bought a new Ford Explorer last year and I don't particularly care for AM radio, but I'm not going to write a letter to Ford telling them to take the AM radio option off of their cars because I know that some people DO like AM radio. And sure, dropping the AM radio option might take a whole $5 off the price of the car, but it's really not that big a deal.

When I have my open house each year, the kids really respond to the crew talk. They love it. You can see their eyes get really big when they hear the engine actually talking. Heck, even some adults get wide eyed when they here the crew sounds.

Oh and by the way, the crew talk may be very unrealistic but so is that 3rd rail we all live with

Well said Eric, unfortunately there are people out there who won't stop complaining until they see the result they want. So I think its too late now to change the effect people have had on the crewtalk.

But then again sometimes there are so many complainers like me who want it back maybe they will change their mind. Its a constant back and forth which is why they should of left the thing go in the first place and leave it as it is.

Technology is so vast these days and ever changing that I would suspect in the near future Lionel will be able to fit a lot more locomotive sounds, crewtalk dialogues, and other features on even smaller boards.

Thats very possible and would be cool..But really mth does have right idea with downloading the sounds and programing it..

Agreed! This is a preview thread and not a I-hate-towercom-and-crewtalk thread. 99% of the people here probably never intended to buy the centipede so you people look for any reason to bash Lionel. As one poster said it best - if you dont like it then dont buy it! Nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you spend $2,200.

shows the PRR model with the trainphone gear on the leading unit as on the Broadway Limited HO model you picture.

I see the antenna on the PRR but not on the UP version as shown on Eric's video? I am hoping it is a part that is assembled to prevent damage in shipping? Can Eric confirm this?

The points I was making and the points Eric was making were not about the engine but about reasons why Lionel should of kept of the specific crewtalk and also the reasons why Lionel got away from that.

That being said I think the engine is fantastic! I can't wait for someone to post a picture of the Pennsy 5 stripe.

Not quite. The Lionel A-B-B-A has sound in only the front unit. It's not actually a "set".The two A units come together as a set and then I bought the unpowered and powered B units. The front A unit has all the sound. Both A units have smoke and the powered B-unit has smoke as well. It's a great "set". The only downside is that it's only the front A unit that has sound. But it's not a big deal.
