He guys... just picked up the Vision Line Challenger and have her all set up. I am running it in conventional mode for the time being, and have discovered there is no sound at all from either the engine or tender. no crew talk, chuffing, whistle, bell... zip, zero, nada... Any advise for what to look at on this? I hate to send it back to the seller, as I got a great deal on it, but at the same time, I shouldn't have to be sending it back to Lionel either...

Uncouple the tender from the engine and apply power. If you hear sounds then the problem is in the engine. If no sounds then the problem is in the tender. Report back.

No sound.... just a hum from the engine at that's it
Check the volume pot. If still no sounds you will want to pull the tender shell off and make sure all the wires are connected. If the wires to the pot are loose you won't get sounds. Further testing can be done with the tender alone uncoupled from the engine until you hear sounds.

OK... opened it up and found a couple boards knocked loose., but no broken wires and no apparent damage otherwise. I put things back together and it is running as it should. I need to take it in for a couple pipes that have come off that I don't have the screws for, but she runs good otherwise.
