Has anyone here ever gone to the Annual Lionel Warehouse sale?  I'm looking for some first hand information as to what Lionel typically has up for sale at these events.  I'm looking at the website now and it looks like all they have (on the website) are some box sets that are discounted.  On another post/link I found, it looks like they also sell refurbished engines/rolling stock etc..  In the pictures I've seen on the web, there does appear to be a decent amount of orange boxes for sale.

As I live in Texas, I'm wondering if it would be worth the drive.  I'd be wanting to buy Fastrack, Legacy engines (steam and diesel), scale rolling stock and accessories (if they're on sale).

Also keep in mind that I'm not doing this exclusively to save a few bucks, the novelty factor is also present as it would be really cool to visit the Lionel HQ.

I don't know how far the drive is from Texas.  If it's more than a day, I don't know if it would be worth the expense to go. I came from PA.

Most of the stuff sold last year was sets, lower end cars, and decorations and such.  There was a table with higher end cars and one with locomotives but they get picked through very fast.  Most of these are returns and refurbished items.  Nothing wrong with them other than a box blemish or again they were refurbished.

I left last year with a bar stool and a bunch of Christmas decorations.  Not so much in the way of actual trains.  Fast Track was there in a big contained but mostly O36 so it depend on what you are looking for there.

If you want to see Lionel, it's a nice look at the warehouse and gift shop, that's about it.  I'm sure there are some deals on some bigger items but you'll need to be there as soon as you are able to get in on Friday if you qualify as an LCCA member or Friend and Family.

Personally for me it's a day away from work and a car ride with some good friends so I also consider that into my decision to go.

In one of the photos of the 2015 Warehouse Sale, I saw rolling stock packaged in the old box style they stopped using in the late 80's or early 90's. Where are they getting this stuff from?

The one year there was a large amount of stuff that had come from Michigan when they emptied out the facility there. Some of it back to the MPC days.

I do not think you will save any money after the trip cost is calculated. You are looking at about a 19 - 20 hour drive, one way. Gas, food, and motel will wipe out any savings. Unless you just want a road trip, stay home and order online from one of the advertisers here. I would rather give my money to them, than to the oil company's.

I agree.  Last year I didn't find anything that offset my trip with 1 night hotel, gas, and food but did have a good time with 4 other train minded friends.  To boot a day away from the office is always a plus.  We said last year we'll make this a yearly thing just to get away.  Seeing everyone from Lionel and the LCCA was a bonus.

Its according to what ur wanting.   NEW , stuff right off the shelf, production year, 2015- 2016, its probably NOT gonna be something you will find.   A bunch of Sports related cars, and sets out the wazoo,  The legacy engines are from catalogs, 2013, 2014

or so and you got to open the box, to be sure if new or refurbed.  If there is no black marks on the cradles, and the paper liners is

perfect , you may have hit a winner.  I did pu a  TEX SPEC, and a N. Pacific, last year, that the paper liner not touched. Appeared

to have come from a store closing in Michigan.  Most Fast trak, you have to look at the boxes.   They had some neat, conventional

Christmas , trains running last year.   and box cars/ speeders,  and slow mover freights at nifty $.  Polar Express, items, along

with A/Flyer.  Decorations,  Ms Thomas, paintings,  and some other accessories, you might not otherwise get from the catalog,

and Yes you will see some out of state tags,  Just according to what people want to do ,  but nice time to have

and of course you are in Charlotte for lots of other opportunities to do other Stuff.

Last year, on Friday night, I picked up some Fastrack switch bargains plus some track and bumpers for the layout expansion I was planing. Plus I picked up a Legacy PRR GP7 at a good price. I do wish I hadn't passed on the Tuscan Legacy K4. After York and all the GP was all I could afford. Since I'm an hour and a half away from the warehouse it's worth the trip. I'm planning on being there on the 3rd.

2017  DOOR BUSTER ($25 Megatracks sets) !!!!

They might not sell at that price?

My prediction for the 2018 warehouse sale.  (MegaTrack sets free to the first 50 customers)   Make sure you are customer 51 or greater.

Marty and Mike,

Am I to take it you don't like Megatracks???

I'll let you in on a secret...I don't either!

Does anyone know when they are doing the online parts sale?????

Yes, that is what I want to know too!  Just recently was the first time I knew they did online parts ordering with this.  I have something I want to order.

I believe the sale starts on Friday Nov 3rd and ends at midnight on Sunday Nov 5th. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys for all the input.  I won't be able to make it down this year.    I'm definately going next year though.  Couple of questions:

1) Those of you that have been and have purchased items, would you mind sharing what your paid for these items?  I know Legacy Diesels typically retail for around $450 to $550 or so.  How much were you able to get these for at the Warehouse Sale?

2) How steeply discounted were all Fastrack items (track, switches etc...)?

Thanks all and please report back on this years finds (with prices)!
