I have a Lionel 6466 whistle tender that is not whistling. The motor is strong and the wheel inside spins but it doesn’t sound. Not sure what to look for. Looking for repair ideas and advice. Thoughts?
If you got the tender second hand, check that the motor and impeller are spinning in the proper direction. Spinning in the wrong direction will not cause the whistle to blow.
Also check that the whistle chamber is sealed and not leaking air out other than the ports.

If the whistle chamber is in fact "Leaking" air you can re-seal it with epoxy and it will sound like new. I had one which leaked air badly and used epoxy to re-seal the chamber and it worked like a charm.
