Lionel21" Dome Car- I fixed it?

What exactly did you do? Yes, I know they changed the seat alignment - but the parts are separately applied and easy to move once you get inside the car. (That's no excuse but it's what it is with these cars.)

I bought the camera dome car at discount and pulled the dome off the newer car and placed it on the old car.

I don’t understand why you had to swap the domes. I must’ve misunderstood or missed some thing. Was there a reason for the dome swap? Was it damaged or did the car get dropped?

I think I geddit now, and the only thing I'll add is that Lionel are the ONLY importer to get these domes right. OK, they are subject to assembly/shipping issues, but in this (lucky) case they were put right.

It was severely damaged from an auction delivery. The set overall is nice for the price so I didnt return it. I thought I could get the part but Nope! No spare dome car parts.

Now I see that you have swapped the more accurate rounded dome for what I think of as the less accurate flat pane version (depending on exactly which car/era is being modeled). Lucky that they are the same dimensions! P.S. I agree that you fixed it.

What about Atlas O Domes for the California Zephyr cars? They have the rivet detail that these current Lionel dome cars are lacking.

OK, you may well be right about that - I have not checked against prototype photos. Still, the Lionel curved glass domes are excellent and if they left rivets out I am not counting!

And Atlas used to have replacement domes available until they sold out the stock on hand.

Now I know why Lionel switched the domes on the dome camera car, its the camera that needs more room in the Budd dome and has not enough room in the Pullman style dome.
