Lionell legacy SD90mac has very low sound volume

In the past, if I had an engine with low volume problems, it was the speaker. Look at the speaker and if there is a loose powder coating on the magnet ring, it is also on the inside of the speaker and restricting the movement of the cone, and thus the low volume.

The problem turned out to be an issue with the volume knob. I tried it again this morning, turning it up and down with no change in the ultimate max volume.
But after doing that a third time it was like flipping a switch. Wow!
When I rotated it clockwise the third time, it suddenly got louder, much more than before. It is working normally now and I have it at max and can control the volume normally via my Legacy controller.
Dust maybe? Either way, I’m glad it sounds normal now.

A little contact cleaner normally fixes this permanently.

Well, most any electronic contact cleaner will do the trick, I happen to have CRC Contact Cleaner and Protectant on hand, and it works well.  It's also good for cleaning track on a rag.
