I saw the original in Ron Hollander's classic book about the old lionel Corporation, ALL ABOARD, but that photo was in black and white.  I like this one a tad more since its a color shot.

They do seem to be "lashed" together, but, as it is a steam situation, "double-heading"

would still be more era-appropriate.
