I have never installed a new sound file on a locomotive. Is it difficult to do, or are there any problems that usually happen. I would hate to lose the current sounds if I had trouble loading a new file. I would like to load a new sound file to a Berkshire. Not sure it has the correct one in it.

Start by downloading a backup copy of the original from MTH or if it's not available, from the engine.
To get it from the engine you must use the older version of the loader software.
Then load up the new one.
I would highly recommend use of a programming track for this operation, it is signal intensive and any glitch will cause problems.
Details on how to do all this are best gotten from Barry's book, also available from the MTH website.
Just for info, the old sound file in the loco stays intact until the new file download is complete.
In other words, if you have a problem and have to abort, the engine will still be operational with the old file.
Regardless, its a good idea to upload a copy of the current sound file onto your computer using the upload icon in the Loader toolbar.
This is available at least through version 2.2; not sure about 2.3
The Loader will guide you through the entire process.
Hookup is the same as for downloading a sound file.

The upload sound file disappeared from the 2.3 loader.
