I've been asked by a colleague if I knew where to source 24" gauge track for a CP Huntington style train similar to the ones Chance builds.  I'm assuming that there's a reason they're not buying from Chance.  I guess she assumes that since I know how to make roller coaster track, I should know where to find train track!  Not a good assumption, but anyway...

Anyone on this board running big-sized 24" stuff?  Where do you get your track?

Jeff

Every live steam operation that I have ever visited, build/lay their own track, i.e. lay down the ties, then spike one rail, they spike the other rail in gauge. I guess I was never aware that "24" track" could be purchased complete.

The track for that kind of railway comes in several different weights. A friend had a 22" railway that used 20-pound rail for the main lines, and 12-pound rail for the sidings.  Have you Googled?

Have you tried these guys?

Harmer Steel Products Company - 20-lb/yd ASCE Rail

I've seen the Chance trains running on anything from 12 lb to 20 lb rail.  Are they looking for new or used rail?  There used to be a couple of places that imported 12 lb rail (rail that small isn't rolled in the US anymore), but I don't even know if they are still around.  You can occasionally find rail in the size range on the Discover Live Steam website in their "For Sale" section.
