Hump day of another week brings us to Midweek Photos for mid January.
A few weeks ago, I spent a weekend in Virginia. I explored the town of Suffolk, which is still a busy railroad town. The less busy rail line features this preserved Seaboard Air Line & Virginian depot.
The station is now a depot on the area's history, and has an extensive HO layout.
The rail line is becoming busier with a new stack train added to the schedule. First, we were greeted by the local.
A rather short train of perhaps 20 cars. We decided to stick around waiting for the stack train.
Really sharp!
A neat old bay window caboose from the mid 60s was on display behind the station. Norfolk & Western did not serve this line.
They had their own station a few blocks away. This was the busy rail line. While at the Seaboard station, I heard several horns blow for the many grade crossings in town. When I made my way over here, no trains were around.
Norfolk Southern still maintains a small yard office here. Amtrak will extend service through here to reach Norfolk, VA,but I hear this station will not be a stop on the way.
Evidence of the upgrade to passenger speeds is the track machinery found on the NS line a few blocks away from the station.
It's nice to see such busy rail traffic in a city.
How did you fare lately? Any new or unusual action on the rails around you? If so, post them here. Enjoy the rest of your week.
