Time flies like an arrow. It seems like we just started the last weekend, and here we are back at Wednesday again. I hope you are ready to contribute to another issue of Midweek Photos. Our 9th month of 2017 is winding down, and already I am looking forward to our Year in Review for December. We want to see how your year of railroading went, so... Spread the word, guys!
This past Saturday, the Carbondale (PA) Chamber of Commerce, along with the National Park Service, operated a wine train from Carbondale to Dickson City, PA. Delaware Lackawanna RR provided the power.
Carbondale is about 15 miles northeast of Scranton, where Steamtown is located. The tracks leading there are former Delaware & Hudson. this is a yard of sorts in South Carbondale called Tredegar. The C424 is preparing to make the run-around to push the train to the Carbondale station.
The loco is from the Spokane, Portland & Seattle. She was painted in the Delaware-Lackawanna markings last year.
In addition to wine and some food served at the Carbondale station, there were also stops at Archbald, seen above. Wooden station platforms date back to the mid 1990s and early 2000s. Archbald is a rather small town, but hosted several railroads. The D&H, New York Ontario & Western, New York Susquehanna & Western, the Grassy Island RR, plus, the Erie and DL&W had trackage rights. All for accessing the coal here. Only one track remains.
The second stop is Jessup, PA.
It was a very hot day. Too hot for wine, if you ask me. However, no one complained, especially if they found some shade.
Final stop is Dickson City, PA. The D&H freight station is preserved, and now stands as a community gathering spot for events.
That is me for this week. How did your recent rail fanning go? If you like what you found, please share. You know how much we like trains. Also, have a good week.
