Modeling Material From the 1930s

That looks like a built up JC models kit.  I have a few of these. The sides are embossed cardstock. See John Ericson's OO scale blog for more info. Or the American OO group on Facebook. 

I'm with Phil........what they called 'embossed bristol board'.  Bristol was just a high end cardstock that cut and embossed well. 

Thanks guys. I have heard of Bristol board. Didn't realize it could be embossed like that. I did see JC models mentioned but was not familiar with their offerings.

BTW have either of you worked with this material? If so have you ever tried to strip paint off of it? Between the paint and adhesive these were made to last forever.

I was able to safely strip this car. I placed it in a beaker of acetone and let it soak. Pretty happy with the results. No damage to the bristol board and didn't raise the grain on the wood. It even disolved the glue, whatever was used here.

Thanks Phil but I think I have enough cars now. Besides the lot 8 that the above car was from I have 4 more Scalecraft cars. One still in kit form. I could used some more 6 wheel heavyweight trucks if you have any or have any leads on?

Impressive result!  I'll have to consider acetone for such cars in the future.
