Can anyone tell me a little bit about the MTH premier NYC Dreyfuss PS 2 20-3045-1? How does she run? What’s the reliability like? Any major issues?
thanks,

Great runner. Love the whistle. Had mine for 10 years. Joe
PS-2 5V board so it is susceptible to failure. I have replaced a few. Otherwise nice engine. G
I (knowingly) purchased one as a paper weight, bad PS-2 5V board.
So far, so good with mine, but based on what I've read here, I won't be surprised if the board fails. Otherwise, it's a beautiful piece.

Very nice. If centipede tender, won’t like 2 switches connected at the diverging track ends (crossover). Clunky on Atlasswitches, but other than occasional tender plug coming loose, a very nice runner and beautifully executed.

did you ever get your engine repaired it is a nice engine and you can use ps2 3 volt board and is a direct replacement for the 5 volt board if you can find one.
It also can be repaired with the new PS-32 5V board, but it is a tight fit getting one in the engine. I have done a few for customers. G

Yes GGG did my Dreyfuss with the new PS32 boards and it runs great! Thanks GEORGE.
So how many different upgrade options are there for this engine? It seems like you all are mentioning several different types. Are any more cost effective than the others?
The most economical upgrade to this engine is the PS 32 .......the original PS2 5 volt system is suspect for failure. Doing the PS32 upgrade also gets you away from having to deal with a battery.......Here’s a video of a PS2 5 volt Hudson that GGG (George) set up a board swap for me to PS 32 ....for my application, simple plug and play swap....now this engine is a proven performer...........Pat
What type of battery is utilized in this engine? Is it the rectangular battery that resembles a 9v battery or the one that resembles multiple double AA's wrapped together? I just purchased the engine and want a new battery waiting to be installed.
thanks
mth 9v type which is 8.4 v and comes in green
I recently bought one at a good price. It had operational sound board but was intermittent. Determined loose connectivity at the male/female tether between engine and tender. Went so far as to replace the ten pin board and regained all continuity between 12 pin main board and ten pin board in tender…..but still do not have sound. Trying to connect with local repair service to see what next step is. It is getting a little over my head now. Thanks.

What does the speaker look like?
Speaker is fine. Not laminated. I have heard about defective speakers being laminated and have changed one out on another model.
If you’ve replaced all the parts you can think of, and the engine side PCB 10 pin connector is ok, top suspect would be audio portion of PS2 board. If this is beyond your scope of repairs, contact GGG ( George ) on this forum. He can fix your Dreyfus. As he has mentioned on this thread, repair board is a little difficult to fit but doable. If you’re out of options to try, I’d send the whole locomotive & tender to George for repair……the boards to fix that engine are currently available, but the supply is limited……
