Hi all,

I've posted about my engine before: https://ogrforum.com/t...pilots-jumping-rails

I had fixed the jumping issue and the engine runs fine. Tonight we fired up the engine and the sound almost immediately cut out. Lights and smoke are fine, engine runs as it should. Just no sound. Tried the bell, tried the whistle, also followed MTH troubleshooting and tried turning the sound up on the remote and nothing happened. Once in a while, it will sound like it is attempting to work but then it goes silent again.

Is the sound fried? Anything else I can try? Also, if it does need repaired, where should I send it? My "Local" HS that handles MTH is about an hour drive, so you figure there and back twice is four hours of driving and my last few experiences with them haven't been pleasant and they kept my original box! The original shop I purchased it from is no long in business.

Money/time put into this little engine has started to outweigh the coolness of it.

Particulars:
MTH 33-1038-1
Run with MTH DCS Remote Commander
Lionel V Transformer upgraded with external fast acting breakers and TVS
Purchased 3-4-16

I have a 2-8-0 from a starter set that does the same thing. Power it up, the sound starts for 2 or 3 seconds, and then deaf silence. You're not alone.

However, I run this engine with 2 or 3 others at the same time, so one without noise isn't a big deal. Not a big deal, but agreeably annoying.

I would be curious as to the cause, I find it interesting that it only occurs on start up after a few minutes of dead track, and it occurs regularly. The first place I will check when I get into it is the proto battery. I would think a continuity issue would be less predicable.
