Does this item work for 3 Rail DCS or only 2 Rail?

Thanks Barry. I am considering another MTH engine in addition to my new RS3 and the REMOTE COMMANDER won't cut the mustard for more than 1 at a time on my 2 loop layout.
Regardless, I'd strongly suggest that you get the full DCS Remote and TIU instead of the DCS Commander for O gauge operation.
I have to agree with Barry, you're putting money into a very limited system for O-scale. You will have difficulty running more than two consists with this unit, and if you run lighted passenger trains, maybe only one. It's only good for 100watts and it only puts out DC.
I didn't realize 100W was the maximum power or that it put out DC, not AC.
Perhaps I will hold off until I can afford a full DCS system (and they are available).
Thanks for the advice .
Well, I was hoping to run 2 NTH engines with one Z-1000 on 2 interconnected loops. It is only 4 x 8' so I don't really need a walk around remote.
I can see I'll have to give this more thought. Thanks for your comment.
Another thing I forgot to mention ... MTH is releasing an app to run on IOS and android devices. I saw this in the new 2014 vol 2 MTH catalog grouped in with DCS.
Since this is not out yet it's hard to judge but seems like this would be the way of the future. Plus you can use a phone or tablet to run it which you already own. Might make the hardware cost less and the system more powerful and adaptable.
The MTH app will require a DCS TIU. It will not work with a DCS Commander or a DCS Remote Commander.
I'll bet money this will only interface to the full DCS system, and it'll require a network connection, probably the as of yet unavailable wireless module.
John,
First, it will work with the currently available wired ProtoNet (Ethernet) adapter.
Second, it's unclear at present if a wireless router will actually be required for use with the forthcoming MTH wi-fi adapter.
As Barry pointed out, it will not work with the DCS Commander, I figured that would be the case since it is a closed platform. I snipped this below from the 2014 catalog with shows the TIU connected to a wifi device ...
This is what I will be looking at when it finally comes out and maybe wait a little longer for software revisions and maybe a hardware revision as well.

If you use the Ethernet connection, clearly a wireless router would be required to connect your smart phone or tablet. If you have a WiFi module, I'm wondering if you have to connect to it and not have your network WiFi connected. I'm not crazy about that option.

Using iOS, one can connect to more than 1 wi-fi device at the same time. I currently do this with a wi-fi network and a wi-fi USB flash drive.
Well,. I guess I'll be looking for a full DCS set Up as I just bought another MTH PS2 steam engine. a 30-1535-1 Hudson at the auction place .

Of course, since I'd be using an Android phone, that doesn't apply.

NEVER! Once you realize the power of the dark side, you'll never go back!
LOL!
