I recommend that you look through the MTH catalogs on their site year by year so that you can get the item # and actually see what they look like.

Yes, MTH's website includes all products released, not just current production. In addition to searching each catalog, you can try typing different keywords ("Christmas" produced more than 280 returns) in the general search field to do your own research. That should make the task easier.

Please consider posting a list with item #s and catalogue year when your hunt is completed.

Others would find it helpful. There is a lack of Mth product listed by category that is easily accessible. ( I like their j1e hudsons...but there is no easy, comprehensive list readily available by engine#, catalogue, or mtg item # and year of issue).

Rich at Brentwood antique in NH has available comprehensive guides to Mth products for engines cars and accessories. You can purchase thru their website they have number year and pictures. Great resource!

I have all of the Christmas box cars from 2006-present and also 3 others from 1997-1999. Not sure if they go back before that and I haven't filled in the years in between. The item numbers for 97-99 are in order 30-7416, 30-7426, and 30-7434. These earlier cars had 2 different scenes painted on the box car v the same scene repeated on both sides. I believe the Christmas box cars are religious whereas the Holiday box cars are seasonal.

I have all of the standard issue "Nativity" cars through 2015. To say that I was extremely disappointed in the 2016 car offering would be an understatement, didn't buy that one. I noticed they went back to the traditional Nativity for 2017.

Sometime back, there was a thread here about the Nativity cars and it had a listing for them.

1997 would be the start.

Complied by going through the MTH Product site search engine. Now I can tell you that one item which didn't come up and should have was the MTH Christmas Engine I own labeled "A Savior is born" (I think that's correct, but I'm not at home at the moment to check or to get the number on it.) So clearly my search was incomplete. Basically while both MTH and Lionel have a number of Christmas themed cars, these were the only ones I found that had a religious theme to them, all the rest were secular (Santa, Frosty, Micky Mouse, or generic presents and Christmas tree's, etc. )
