Is there a special trick to run the new DCS small remote with power being backfed thru the output terminals? Thanks bruce

Just connect the two output posts to the track that is separately powered and it should work. No trick involved.

Hi Bruce,
The only "trick" is that the engine you want to run has to be set to the factory default address, which applies no matter how you power the DCSRC. If the engine has never been loaded into a DCS system or DCS Commander it will still be at the default address. If it has been loaded into a DCS system or DCS Commander you must first perform a FACTORY RESET before it will run on the DCSRC.
Bruce,
To add to Dave's post, the Factory Reset may only be accomplished using either a DCS Remote and TIU or a DCS Commander (not the DCS Remote Commander).
Further, a transformer reset, regardless of what you may have read, is only a Feature Reset and will not reset the engine to all of its factory default settings.
I cannot mine to work when powered thru the output. I plug in the MTH brick and it works fine. When I power thru the output the horn blows stations are announced etc. ??? Thanks Bruce
Bruce,
What power supply are you using?
Dave I am using a MTH 500 brick. Thanks bruce
Only thing I can think of Bruce is that you must be losing a good connection between the DCSRC and the track when you change the configuration. When you apply power directly to the track does the engine come up in conventional mode (sound, lights, etc.)? If so, that's a clear indication the DCSRC isn't getting power from the track.
Do you have center rail power to Red and Outer Rail to Black on the DCS Remote Commander? Have you removed the power supply plug from the input jack (even if brick not plugged in to wall outlet)? G
The DCS Remote Commander is designed so power to the track and everything on the track goes into the receiver first (via a Z500, Z750, or Z1000 power brick) and then out to the track via wires connected to the red and black connecting posts on the opposite side of the receiver (red to center rail, black to outside rail). A steady 18 volts (give or take) is fed to the track. It's really very simple in concept and operation.
And, as others have noted, your locomotive MUST be set to its factory default address, and this reset can only be done with the full DCS Digital Command System (TIU and Remote).
If you're trying to hook it up any other way, you're on your own.
Allan,
I believe Bruce is trying to run the DCS Remote Commander in passive mode which you have to do if using a transformer that puts out over 6 amps. He says it works with the Z-500 brick when plugged into the receiver the normal way if I understand him correctly.

...or the DCS Commander (not the DCS Remote Commander).
