Greetings Forum Members,
I have a layout that has both MTH's DCS control and Lionel's Legacy control, each system operated with the remote controllers -- the old fashioned way. I want to transition to an IPAD using DCS WIFI to control both systems. My first task is to determine what hardware I need.
I have a DCS WIFI unit and a REV. L. TIU with (I think) up to date software. The TIU is an older Rev. L. It has an RS232 9 pin serial port only. It does not have a USB port. Here is what I intend to do following the DCS WIFI Companion. Please let me know if I should change any of this.
1. Using a 9 Pin RS232 Y connector with one male end and two female ends, connect the male end of the Y to the 9 Pin female port of the TIU.
2. Connect one female end of the 9 Pin Y to a 9 pin male to USB adaptor, then connect to the DCS WIFI at the WIFI's USB port. This is all I think I need to do for the DCS side.
3. For the LIONEL side, connect the remaining female end of the Y cable coming from the TIU, to an MTH 50-1032 cable (two 9 Pin male ends). Connect the other end of the MTH 50-1032 cable to Lionel 6-81326 SER2 Module at its 9 Pin female port.
4. Connect the 6-81326 SER2 Module to the Legacy Command Base using Lionel 6-81499 DB-9 Cable with Power Supply. My understanding is that the 6-81499 DB-9 cable has a RS232 9 Pin male end to connect to the 9 Pin female port of the Legacy Base, and a USB (?) end to connect to the 6-81326 SER2 Module. It also has a plug for the power supply.
This is my understanding of how to proceed. I ask forum members for any advice on this or changes that might be recommended. Should I do anything differently? All advice and comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for you time and help.
Steve
