I purchased the MTH Amtrack Dispaching board 8 years ago. I have been remodeling my layout and wired it up for the first time. When I press the button the lights go on but the man does not move and the board makes noise but does not change.

Seems every time I hook up a new MTH accessory it has a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions before I try to contact MTH.

Hi Jon.

Thank you for your reply, I removed the top as you advised. The belt is soft and pliable. When I powered it up the belt would not move at all. I hear sounds coming from the top board but there is no movement of the gears on the motor attached to  the belt. I did not feel a vibration coming from the motor. I don't know if the belt does anything more than move the man. the top board moved once without the belt moving.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

A few things to check:

-disconnect the drive motor and power it with a DC power source to see if it runs.

-the limit switch in contact with the drive belt could be bad

-the control switch must be depressed long enough for the limit switch to open for proper operation.

-inside the sign, the screws for the bracket holding the worm gear sometimes backs out or the posts break.  In addition, the belt may be slipping.

Jon, it sounds like I have to send it to a MTH approved repair facility. If I start taking things apart I know I will not get it back together correctly. The motor attached to the belt does not move at all. The 2 white gears will not budge.

Please advise if MTH has an approved repair facility near northwest N.J.

I appreciate your help,
