While browsing through the MTH 2012 Volume 1 catalog, I started looking at the railking scale PRR Trainmasters. I thought they really looked sharp and would love one on my layout(after they ship, of course). Then I noticed that the short hood is forward in the picture and, thanks to some helpful forum members, it was determined that the prr had theirs configured to run with the long hood forward. I was wondering if anyone has seen a pre-run prototype and if this mistake was corrected.

Thanks!

P.S. I am not trying to bash MTH, it is actually my favorite train company.

P.P.S. I am not trying to start a MTH vs. Lionel fight either.

I'm never sure as this argument as to which way is the front or the rear has been ongoing from time to time.

I ordered the blue Virginian and it came long hood forward. I ordered the Black Virginian and it came short hood forward. Or someone at the factory put the shell on backwards. But on which one? Just turn the shell around to suite your taste.

Hi chefnme,

Info like this from observant modelers is always important and helpful to the manufacturers during the development phase.  If MTH hasn't yet produced the models they can easily make this type of change.  Most roads ran short hood forward, so that tends to be the default in the catalogs.  The catalog "photos" are totally computer generated, so there are often variations in the finished model.  Send your info with a book reference where MTH can confirm your observation and the Trainmasters will likely come long hood forward.
