Hi, maybe someone can help me.

I used Barry's book and brought up the list of stations while in learn mode, and saved each one where I stopped the MU.

Did everything by the book.

Problem is despite saving it as a loop, when I play back in auto mode, it never ever starts with the same station as it does when you bring up the list in learning mode.

Thus, the instructions say to start at the first station in the list, in this case Forest Hills, and end with it as well.

However, after you save the loop, and then let the train play it back in auto mode, it does not start with the first station in the list, i.e. Forest park, it starts with Kew Gardens.

Thus, I am confused.....

Should I just cycle thru the list and start with Kew gardens when in Learn Mode instead?

Also, do I have to save and stop at all those stations?

I just want to make stops and Jamaica and Queens, but even if I just save those two, all the other stations cause stops too.

Is there a way to clear it all out and start over? And/or make only two stops instead of all in the list?

From page 105-105 of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition: (I've highlighted what I think you may be missing)

Next, proceed as follows to select the PS2 subway or trolley and create the route:

• Press Start Up on the DCS Remote to place the PS2 subway or trolley into DCS command mode. Then drive it to the first station at the beginning of the route. Ensure that it is facing forward and ready to proceed forward. If it is a subway, ensure that all the subway cars that will normally be attached to the subway are attached

• Note as closely as possible exactly where the front of the engine is located in the station

• Locate the MTC soft key. If it is not present above soft keys 1 through 4, press soft key S5 (à until it is displayed

• Press the soft key MTC to view the programming soft keys

• Locate soft key MLM (Learn Mode). If it is not present above soft keys 1 through 4, press soft key S5, à,until it is displayed

• Press soft key MLM to enter Learn Mode. The engine will announce that it is in Learn Mode

• Pressing soft key LST (List) repeatedly will announce the names of the stations that may be programmed on the route, in the order in which they appear. Note that as many station names as there are stops on the route must be assigned and that they must be assigned in the order in which they are announced

• Press the LST soft key until the desired name for the first station is announced and press soft key SAV (Save) to assign it. The engine will announce that it is saved

• Drive the PS2 subway or trolley to the next stop on the route slowly enough that it can be stopped at a precise location

• Stop the PS2 subway or trolley and note as closely as possible exactly where the beginning of the engine is located in the station

• As before, press soft key LST until the desired name for this station is announced and press soft key

SAV to save it. The engine will announce that it is saved

• Repeat driving the engine to the remaining stops on the route until it arrives at the last stop and the station name has been assigned using soft key SAV.

If the route is an out-and back route, complete programming the route by pressing the SAV soft key one more time to save the route. The engine will announce that the save is complete. Instead of pressing the SAV soft key twice for the last station, soft key SOB (Save-Out-and-Back) may be pressed once.

If the route is a looped route, complete programming the route as follows:

• Continue to drive the PS2 subway or trolley forward until it returns to the original, starting station

• Stop the engine as close as possible to the place where it was when you began programming the route

• Press soft key LST (List) until the name you originally selected for this station is announced

• Press soft key SAV to assign the station name. The engine will announce that the save is complete. Instead of pressing the SAV soft key, soft key SLP (Save Loop) may be pressed once.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Thanks Barry I did that.

Only thing I can think of is that for the first station, I did not drive it to the spot and then start the key sequence..it was already there so I did the key sequence to save it as my first stop.

Is there anyway to just have two stops, instead of all of them?

All I really want is for the train to make only two stops, one at Jamaica and one at Queens.

Is there anyway to just have two stops, instead of all of them?

Yes, just program the two that you want, skipping the others.

If the station stops are coming out wrong, either you're doing something wrong or they were mis-programmed on the board. While that's unlikely, I wouldn't rule it out without having a conversation with MTH.

Although you can skip stops that you don't want, be sure that you program the ones that you do want in the same order as they are in the list. If you accidentally miss one that you want, you can cycle through the list until it comes up again, and then select it.

However, don't, for example, assign stop #3 and then cycle around to stop #2 to assign it. That won't work properly.

Hi Barry, thanks again for all your help.

I got it to work fine, and here is what I did wrong previously.

When you go into learn mode to save a station, all the sounds cease, but you can still move the train, albeit you cannot see what your speed is either.

Well, I kept thinking this was incorrect, and after each station I would press the "Eng" button to control the speed...which effectively takes you out of learn mode.

Thus, the path to success was to stay in learn mode by NOT pressing the "Eng" button to control the train to the next station, and just kind of eye ball the speed, and then of course cycle thru the list at the next station per the instructions etc.

So all is good now.
