MTH Ps2 30-4156-1E set not working | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have a MTH ps2 Christmas set that last year stopped working and I would like to learn some more about the boards on the inside of the tender as I would like to keep the sounds, but replace the board that is broken. So in the pictures what is the board on top and the one on the bottom?

The first step might be checking the battery. What exactly isn’t working on it?

When power is applied the lights turn on, but no sounds, no movement, and I don't here the relay click.
