Does the MTH PS3.0 f-7 have to have all three units  (A-B-A) connected together to function?  Can you leave off the trailing A unit and just have an A-B enginer config?  How about leaving out the B unit and just operating as an A-A?

 

I read the manual online and this question is not addressed.

Nope.

Yes.

 

How about leaving out the B unit and just operating as an A-A?

Yes, the inside of a B unit is just a tether that connects the two A units.

 

However, the trailing A unit does not work on its own. The leading A unit does.
