I am wondering about the power required for this smoke unit ...track voltage or straight DC? I have the train apart...the unit has a bulb mounted on the front...spring contacts on bottom circuit board...blower motor and light will function on nine volt battery...has dual elements ...was disconnected inside train so don't know how it was originally powered...if track powered I can test outside train. If it needs repair can anyone suggest repair shop?

you can test it with track power ac or dc if its the proto 1 smoke unit.. it sound like you have a proto 1 smoke unit..whats wrong with it?  GGG showed me how to fix mine.. so far Id fixed  3 and moditfied my smoke units to really put out the smoke too.

You can test it by connecting it to an AC source at about 10-14 VAC.

It should produce plenty of smoke at that level.

There should be two board connections for power.

The fan motor should be already plugged into a separate connector on the board; leave it as is.

It would have been connected to track power originally.

The fact that it has been disconnected may mean it is faulty for some reason.
