I purchased the MTH cable and connected it to both serial ports on each of the DCS system and Legacy box. I can add an engine in the DCS remote (it does have the correct legacy address for the engine) but it will not start the engine. I can start the engine with the Legacy Cab remote just fine. Can it be a bad cable?

First, are you certain that the cable is the latest one, MTH #50-1032? If it's the older #50-1018 cable it will not work.
Second, when you attempt to startup the engine using the DCS Remote, does the LED on the Lionel command base flicker? If so, the cable is most likely fine.
If the LED does flicker, make sure that you entered the engine's Legacy ID# correctly in the DCS Remote.
If the LED doesn't flicker, then make certain that you don't have the cable connected in reverse. It only works one way. The ends are marked. Also, make sure that you entered the TIU ID# to which the command base is connected as the correct TIU ID#.
Thank you for the reply Barry.
I am using the latest cable. 50-1032
The LED on the Legacy does not flicker
The correct ID# is being used for the engine
The cable ends are marked and installed on the correct ends
The correct TIU # is being used
I am stumped. I guess the cable is bad?
I guess the cable is bad?
It's possible, however, it would be the first one of which I've heard that was bad-out-of-the-box.
Are you sure that the cable is firmly seated at both ends? Check to see if the ends have any bent pins.
The cables are seated at both ends. I added the extra fasteners to the DCS system and have the cables screwed in on both boxes. Also, the cable does not have any bent pins. I will get another cable soon and try it and post my results.
Thanks again Barry for your help on this matter.
The cable was bad. I returned and purchased a new cable and everything worked flawlessly.
Again, thank you Barry for your assistance.
