Here are pictures of my newly arrived MTH Union Pacific Turbines!

Excuse the mess on my workbench, I was so excited I couldn't wait to open the boxes.

I got a great deal on these 4 locomotives.  2 have never been ran! The other 2 have been lightly ran.

These are my first MTH locomotives.  I know they are older models, but the price was right and in such great condition I couldn't pass them up.  I'm primarily a UP Steam freak, so these are way out of my normal purchase realm.  Truth is, I've always wanted to add these to my UP fleet. Always been interested in the UP Turbines, so when the chance came to get all 4 at once, I jumped on it.

Now I am learning about 1st generation Proto-Sounds.  Looks like I need to invest in a few BCRs at minimum (been using the 'search' function to educate myself).  Future plans call for possibly converting to TMCC for command operation (Asking for opinions here-I don't want to buy another command system and these are the only MTH engines I will ever buy).

I plan on weathering them later on.  They are too shiny for my taste...

The #80 Coal Turbine blew me away, it is over 57" long!  I have O-150 (75" R) curves planned for my new layout-But this bad boy may still look odd on them!

I am so happy, they are nice locomotives and for the money I have involved, I couldn't have done better.

Enjoy the photos.

I love the big UP turbines.  I have all but the propane turbine, and the new MTH issue is on order, promised to ship next month!  I had the same GTEL and coal turbine models you do: it is a monster that has trouble fitting through some of my tunnels portals, but it smokes really nicely.  I currently have a Lionel Veranda: I had the MTH, too, but took it apart for spare parts when its PS-1 gave the three clanks of death and all - I just needed Veranda and the Lionel is quite nice with its metal body.

I wanted the Lionel Veranda, but I got such a great deal on all of these it was impossible to say no.  Besides, I probably won't run them very much, my UP steam collection is my real focus.

I am totally new to MTH/Proto-Sounds, so I've been doing a lot of reading. Learning about the 3 clanks of death.

I don't run the coal turbine of the GTEL much, just because a) I mostly like UP and ATSF steam, and b) they are just so big . . . I have to move a couple of things near the track, and take off one tunnel portal, for the coal turbine to make it around my mainline loop.  That is a pain to do so it mostly stays on the shelf.  I really like to look and them and just study their differences and similarities to diesels and other UP locos.

Thanks everyone!

Here are a few more of the Gas Turbine:

I need to get the BCRs ordered; can't wait to see these beast run.  I couldn't hardly sleep last night thinking about these awesome locomotives pulling huge trains on my new layout.  Need to add a few tracks on the layout for storage also.

For now, they'll sit in boxes (like the rest of my trains) .  I'll do more research and decide how I'm going to upgrade the 3 Proto-Sounds to command control.

I'm so excited to have these in my collection.

Now that, my friend, is a lot of horsepower!   I also have these guys....and have done rather extensive work on the #5 GTEL to get her looking a lot closer to the Big Overland #30 2 rail GTEL I have.  They all run quite well, although the #5 doesn't like using a BCR...and I had to return her to battery operation.  Got the #26 Proto 2 GTEL when she came out in 2005, and had a fair amount of trouble with it.  If you ever get this locomotive, I'd recommend adding a bunch of weight to the B-unit..enough that it matches the A unit.  Same thing can be done to the #5, and there is plenty of room to add it.  Turn 'em up loud, with lots of smoke...and run 'em hard and fast, for a true UP experience !
